Quit Smoking Now! on Thursdays
Learn to live without tobacco with this free counseling session at Islamorada Branch Library. The meeting is every Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. Nurse Ashley, a trained tobacco-treatment specialist, will provide the information and tools (including nicotine patches, gums, or lozenges, while supplies last and if medically appropriate) needed to become tobacco free. Attendees will learn about what triggers their tobacco habit and how to handle withdrawal symptoms. Each year 70% of smokers want to quit, and 46% try on their own and do not succeed. But the Florida Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Network has discovered that one third of people who take go to these sessions successfully quit tobacco. This program is sponsored by AHEC, a nonprofit that has been funded by the state to deliver tobacco cessation services. For more information about this counseling, call 305-743-7111.
