You can get books, movies, online courses and more from the Library 24/7 – Here’s how

Even if you’re not at one of our branches or it’s after-hours, the Monroe County Public Library has a lot to offer.

Ebooks and eaudiobooks

Want something to read on your Kindle, tablet or phone? Or something to listen to? With your Monroe County Public Library card, you have access to more than 15,000 eBooks and more than 5,000 eAudiobooks that you can download any time. Download the Libby app for the easiest reading and listening. Can’t find the link to the digital collection? Streaming video

Cable bills and streaming services can really add up. With your Monroe County Public Library card, you have access to Kanopy – which has more than 30,000 titles, including new movies, classics, documentaries and foreign films, TV shows and instructional videos – including the Great Courses. And there are no limits on the number of plays for kids’ content!

Magazines

You can choose from more than 5,000 magazine titles and get them instantly, with no waiting. Back issues are included. You get them just like eBooks and eAudiobooks, via the Libby app or our Overdrive website.

Online courses

Your library card gives you access to a wealth of resources that can improve your life – all for free. That includes LinkedIn Learning, an online center for professional, technical, and creative learning, LawDepot, where you can create documents like a lease agreement, will and power of attorney, Mango Languages with more than 70 online language courses, including English as a second language, and the Florida Electronic Library, which has statewide job listings, government documents, journals, eBooks, newspapers, and more. They’re all under “resources” at our website, www.keyslibraries.org. Our Kanopy video streaming app also has an instructional section, where you can watch the Great Courses series, learn more about art, cooking and healthy living – you can even work out old-school with videos from Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons.

Homework help

Need to do some research for a last-minute project – or just keep the kids occupied when the library buildings are closed? Check out our Kids & Teens section, which has links to eBooks and eAudiobooks, Kanopy Kids (which includes some educational videos and has unlimited plays), Mango Languages (including Pirate!) and several collections where you can find articles from newspapers, magazines and journals.

After-hours access

You can get books and DVDs from the Monroe County Public Library Lending Machines on evenings and weekends, even when the Library buildings are closed. In Key Largo, the machine is at the Murray Nelson Government Center, 102050 Overseas Highway, and it’s accessible 24/7. On Stock Island, the Lending Machine is at Bernstein Park, 6751 Fifth Street. It’s open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

You can also request books, audiobooks and DVDs be held for you at our Pick-up Lockers that are accessible 24/7 – they are at the Key Largo Library, 101485 Overseas Highway (at the Tradewinds Shopping Plaza) and the Marathon Library, 3490 Overseas Highway. The Pick-up Locker at Bernstein Park on Stock Island is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The Florida Keys History Center online image archive

Don’t have a library card?

If you’re a Monroe County resident or property owner or active or retired military in the Keys and you don’t have a library card, you can register online here – you’ll need to visit a physical branch within three months to confirm your residency and get permission to check out physical materials.
