Kids can scout for badges for reading and joining in on library events!

You’ve heard of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts – now the Key West Library is introducing Library Scouts, where kids can earn badges for reading and participating in STEAM activities!

The program is open to all kids ages 6 and up and will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

The program will including experiments, crafts, books and more fun activities. Each meeting will focus on a new badge and include activities to earn that badge.

“We really wanted to focus on keeping kids engaged in arts, STEAM and literacy all year long, while also adding in a social component,” said Library Associate Patricia Blanco.

“We want kids to try new things and help them find their passions,” she said.

Can’t make it to the monthly meetings? That’s ok, Library Scouts was designed as a program on your time. Children can still participate and earn badges by reading at home with the Library Scouts Badge Booklets. In the Library Scouts booklets, children are encouraged to read by completing reading goals to earn prizes and collect reading badges.

Library Scouts has 2 booklets available! Print them out from home or pick one up at the Key West Public Library.
