1829 – It was proposed to establish a Temperance Society at Key West.
1930 – Andrew J. Page moved his store into a modern two-story concrete building he had built at 501 Duval Street, at the corner of Fleming, in Key West.
1930 – The Key West Merchants’ Association, Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club were calling for Congress and the War Department to deepen the Northwest Channel to improve ship traffic between Key West and Tampa.
1970 – Key West High School’s Bill Butler was named the no. 2 basketball player in the state by the Miami News.
1998 – The cruise ship Seabourn Pride, carrying Oprah Winfrey and renowned poet Maya Angelou, arrived at Key West in celebration of Angelou’s 70th birthday. “It is such a beautiful place,” said Winfrey, after taking a 30-minute run around the island.
2015 – Monroe County commissioners approved a $7 million deep injection well at the Cudjoe Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant on Blimp Road, after a study by Florida International University showed such a deep well was needed to properly dispose of treated effluent.
