
1905 – Dr. John B. Maloney was promoted to chief surgeon for the Second Infantry Regiment, Florida National Guard.
1954 – The 53-unit Southernmost Motel at the corner of Duval and South streets was nearing completion. Owners Ben and Aron Mazur planned to open the facility by January 1.
1966 – The Navy reported that the military community in Key West was composed of 8,582 Navy, 663 Air Force, 570 Army, 37 Coast Guard, 1,180 military students, 1,294 civilian employees and 10,002 military dependents living in the area.
1974 – Federal Judge Willam Mehrtens ordered the J.G. Moretti Company to restore 50 acres of unsold lots in a Hammer Point, Key Largo, trailer park to its original state. Mehrtens said illegally dredged canals had to be filled and cleared land had to be replanted with mangroves.
1975 – The Florida Statistical Abstract for 1975 showed that, in 1974, Monroe County had the highest cost of living of any county in Florida.
2009 – Islamorada’s first ever national chain store – a new Domino’s Pizza franchise located in a Plantation Key strip mall at mile marker 88.5 – opened after a U.S. Court of Appeals struck down the Village’s 2002 anti-chain store law.
