
1925 – The new La Concha Hotel was opened to the public, with a grand opening set for January 22, 1926.
1954 – The U.S. Navy announced that its Underwater Photo Unit would be transferred from Washington D.C. to Key West after the new year. The unit would also be expanded to include camera and electronic technicians as well as diver-photographers.
1955 – President Eisenhower arrived in Key West to begin a restful winter vacation. Thousands of people lined the motorcade route to welcome the President who came to recuperate from heart trouble.
1962 – The new Key West City Hall on Angela Street was dedicated. State Senator Elmer Friday of Fort Myers was the keynote speaker.
2009 – Capt. Steve Holmes, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Key West, sent a letter to multiple downtown bar owners asking for their cooperation in curbing illegal drug use in their establishments. A recent Navy-led sting operation netted 21 civilians for drug possession in six Key West bars.
