
1906 – Stock Island and Key West were joined for the first time by the new 12-foot roadway built for the Florida East Coast Railroad.
1906 – A parade, led by the Patriotic Order Sons of America, the Key West Guards, and the Light Guard Band was held in Key West in honor of George Washington’s birthday. The procession ended at La Brisa at the end of Simonton Street, where speeches were given and a dance was held.
1926 – A gala dance contest was held at the La Concha Hotel in Key West, with prizes of a silver loving cup and a $10 gold piece awarded to the top two dancers of both the Charleston and the Waltz.
1935 – Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Clements Jaycocks left for the Matecumbe Keys with four other deputies to quell disturbances at the camps where veterans were stationed to build new highway bridges. There was a growing number of bridge workers already in the Key West jail, with five brought in the previous day.
1946 – Boy Scouts of Troops 50, 51 and 52 left for three-day camping trip to the old CCC Camp on West Summerland Key. This was the first time the Scouts used the West Summerland Key site.
1971 – The Key West Tree Commission was created by the City Commission.
