Did you know that staff from the Islamorada Library branch visit the Monroe County Plantation Key Community Center twice every week to offer tech help to the JOY Center?

The Community Center is at 53 High Point Road on Plantation Key. Staff from the Library are there from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to help JOY Center members deal with their devices. Having trouble navigating your phone, tablet, eReader or laptop? Bring it along and let us help. And remember, if you can't make it on Tuesday or Wednesday, you can get tech help at the library every day.

We also have a Film Club and a Craft Class with the JOY Center on the third Tuesday of every month. The Film Club is at 1 p.m. and the Craft Class at 2 p.m. - all supplies provided!

On Tuesday, April 15, we're planning for the Film Club to show a sampling of short subjects that will give you a taste of what Kanopy (the Library's streaming app) has to offer. Don’t have a library card? No problem! We can sign you up for one right then and there so you can enjoy the streaming benefits your card will unlock! Our presentation will include:

  • Rhapsody in Black and Blue (1932) (10 minutes)

A husband who listens to jazz instead of mopping the floor is brained with a mop by his wife. He dreams he's King of Jazzmania, a land of soapsuds where Louis Armstrong performs “I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You” and “Shine.”

  • The Guide to Essential Italy: Rome – The Eternal City (2015) (29 minutes)

Begin your journey with sites along the Tiber River, which tells the story of Rome through the ages. Climb the Monte Caprino, one of Rome's seven hills, to see monumental sculptures, Michelangelo's magnificent piazza and palaces, and the outstanding decoration and artworks of the Church of the Aracoeli.

  • An Irish Goodbye (2022) (22 minutes)

Winner of Best Live Action Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards. On a farm in rural Northern Ireland, estranged brothers Turlough and Lorcan are forced to reunite following the untimely death of their mother. But when the pair discover an unfulfilled bucket list belonging to their late mum, their pained reunion takes an altogether different course.
