Need a break on the weekend? Stop in at the Islamorada Library branch, 81830 Overseas Highway, at 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays for some family-friendly film fare. You do not need to have a Monroe County Public Library card to attend.

Here's what we're showing this month:

March 1: The Boy and the Heron, PG-13, 124 minutes

The winner of the Best Animated Feature in 2024 also acts the swan song (for now) of legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. When a boy’s stepmother is kidnapped and taken to another dimension, he enlists the help of a begrudging heron and discovers more about his birth mother and himself in the process.

March 8: Inside Out 2, PG, 96 minutes

The sequel to the hit Pixar film finds Riley now 13 and hitting the dreaded era of puberty. With this change come new emotions such as Ennui, Embarrassment, Envy, and (most notably) Anxiety. Red alert conditions force Anxiety to spearhead the control center and kick Joy and the rest of the original emotions out.

March 15: Flow, PG, 90 minutes

Nominated not only for Best Animated Feature but also Best International Feature, this independent film from Latvia was made with just 20 crew members over the course of five-and-a half years. It tells the story sans dialogue of a cat who escapes a flood aboard a derelict vessel. Along his journey, he encounters a dog, a capybara, a lemur, and a crane who join him in this tale of found family.

March 22: Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, PG, 79 minutes

The first Wallace & Gromit film since winning the Oscar 20 years ago, this one finds the ever-faithful dog noticing his owner becoming more reliant on technology, culminating in the invention of a “smart gnome” to do everyone’s tasks for them. Things go south when an old enemy manages to hack into the gnome’s A.I. system.
