1828 – The Territorial Council passed the act incorporating the City of Key West.


1909 – Key West’s mail service was increased: It now was sent daily to the east coast of Florida and three times a week to the west coast. Mail would also be gathered from street boxes at 6 a.m. every day except Sunday.


1925 – Massachusetts Senator Wm. M. Butler announced he would begin selling 600 lots on Key Largo, between Barnes Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. A yacht basin would be dug on the bay side, and a golf course, tennis courts, and a fishing camp would be built on the 475-acre “Key Largo Club” development.


1954 – Key West diver Ed Ciesinski left for Nassau to work with the underwater camera crew on “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” a film being produced by Walt Disney Studios.


2000 – A Long Key man was killed after a bomb went off inside his mobile home at the Outdoor Resorts campground. He was sitting in a reclining chair when the explosion happened, and law enforcement officials were not sure if it was a murder or suicide.
