1841 – The salvaged cargo of the barque Henry Wooley, composed largely of coffee, was sold at Key West for $12,000.
1885 – A clandestine filibustering expedition left Key West for Cuba. Fifteen to 30 men loaded packages of arms and ammunition onto a small sailboat, with the goal of taking it offshore to meet a larger vessel, which would then carry everyone and everything to Cuba to aid revolutionaries there.
1900 – A group of Spaniards arrived at Key West via steamship and went for a walk around town. As they came to a coffee shop on Southard Street, a group of Key West Cubans assaulted them. Though the Spaniards held their own, one was hit in the head with a rock.
1949 – Plantation Yacht Harbor, a 21-acre resort cottage colony on Plantation Key, was sold by the Reynolds Metal Company to Miami developer J.G. Head for $110,000. Head planned to add a yacht club and harbor, 100 guest cottages, and a swimming pool.
1951 – The new Grace Lutheran Church on Flagler Avenue in Key West was dedicated. The Reverend Dallas Gibson, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fort Lauderdale, was guest speaker.
1953 – The Key West Citizen had been at every meeting of the City Commission for 34 years. Proof was found when workmen removed the leather cover on the table used by the Key West City Commission and found underneath a copy of The Key West Citizen dated Monday November 24, 1919.
1972 – A condominium project named Harbor Cay West was planned for North Roosevelt. The project was to have 520 units in buildings from 5 to 11 floors with the top floors to be developed with penthouse apartments. The units were to have a sales price from $17,990 to $448,500.
2008 – Incumbent Monroe County Commissioners Charles “Sonny” McCoy and Dixie Spehar were defeated by primary challengers in their bids for re-election.
