
1916 – The Thompson Fish Company of Key West was adding new boats to its fleet in preparation for the fall and winter seasons. The three-year-old business had grown into one of the largest fish wholesalers in Florida.
1924 – It was Florida “Postcard Week,” and Keys residents were encouraged by the Key West Chamber of Commerce to send postcards with local island scenes to out-of-town friends and relatives. The aim was to advertise the Keys as widely as possible.
1933 – Key West Municipal Judge Harry Dongo was suspended by Mayor Wm. H. Malone on charges of malfeasance, misfeasance, and incompetence. Judge Dongo was accused of mishandling warrants, charging the wrong defendants, holding court at irregular hours, and having difficulty making decisions.
1972 – A condominium project named Harbor Cay West was planned for North Roosevelt. The project was to have 520 units in building from 5 to 11 floors with the top floors to be developed with penthouse apartments. The units were to have a sales price from $17,990 to $448,500.
1974 – The Duck Key Property Owners Association began legal action to block the construction of five 14-story condominium towers on the island. The proposed 35-acre project would contain a total of 520 units.
