
1867 – Former President of the Southern Confederacy Jefferson Davis stopped in Key West on his way to Havana, where he was going for his health.
1909 – An exhibition by Marie Cappick’s art class was held at her studio at 412 Whitehead Street in Key West, with oil paintings and hand-decorated ceramics and silks on display. The event was well attended.
1954 – A team from the Twentieth Century Fox film corporation was working on a documentary about submarine operations at Naval Station Key West. The multi-day shoot captured surface and underwater sequences and utilized blimps and divers to film the action.
1961 – Teamsters Union head Jimmy Hoffa visited Key West to inspect the Casa Marina and La Concha hotels that had been acquired by the union.
1993 – Monroe County was trying to resolve an $8 million dollar mistake. The county’s consulting firm estimated that work on Card Sound Road would cost $11 million and borrowed that amount. The actual work cost $3.8 million, leaving the county with money that could only be spent on the road.
