1895 – The British schooner Attic arrived at Key West from Nassau with a Cuban captain and passengers and was immediately placed under surveillance by customs officials. The captain said the vessel was bound to Tampa, but local authorities suspected it was bound for Cuba as a filibustering ship. (Filibustering was engaging in unauthorized warfare against a foreign country.)
1907 – The bridge to Lower Matecumbe Key was completed and the first train crossed to the island.
1933 – Three bales of clothing arrived in Key West for distribution to the needy by the local chapter of the Red Cross.
1934 – H.E. Goodwin of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration inquired at Key West about using the local pineapple and turtle canning factories to can surplus fruit, vegetables, and meat for government purposes.
1947 – The Monroe County Health Department, along with the Tuberculosis and Health Association, began giving chest X-rays to all residents of Key West and Boca Chica 15 years and older. The program was expected to take three weeks to complete.
1960 – Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 50 was commissioned in the main hanger at Trumbo Point.
1981 – Senator Lawton Chiles dedicated the reconditioned cutters Ute and Lipan in ceremonies at the Coast Guard Station Key West.
