1864 – Two sailors from the barque New York deserted at the Dry Tortugas.
1922 – A special 14-car train carrying racehorses from Canada, accompanied by their trainers, arrived at Key West. They were promptly ferried to Havana for the racing season.
1924 – The train arrived at Key West with 116 passengers; 96 had arrived the day before. Most stayed on the island, though some traveled on to Cuba.
1932 – A group of seven Cuban refugees who had arrived at Key West in a small boat two days earlier were taken into custody and jailed. Authorities suspected they were involved in the assassination of Dr. Clemente Vasquez Bello, President of the Cuban Senate.
1934 – Myrtland Cates was dredging a swimming pond along the north side of the Key West boulevard, matching an existing pond to the south of the road that faced Bayview Park. The work was being done under the auspices of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration.
1974 – The two-story house that had been next to the Library at 716 Fleming Street was moved to 115 Duval Street (now the Bagatelle Restaurant).
2008 – The Florida Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development allocated $1.6 million from the Economic Development Transportation Fund for the Vandenberg artificial reef project.
2011 – Powerboat racers Bob Morgan and Jeff Tillman were killed in Key West Harbor when their boat Big Thunder flipped during the Super Boat International Key West World Championships.
