1922 – Key West fish houses were expecting a strong season, as orders had already been placed to keep them busy through March. Crews were arriving to work on the kingfishing smacks and get them in good condition.

1932 – A Charity Turkey Shoot was held at Fort Taylor, and Messrs. Sally and Holland were the top gunners, although Ernest Hemingway, Charles Thompson, and L.T. Curry each scored well enough to be awarded turkeys.

1954 – The crew filming “The Rose Tattoo” left Key West after shooting the final scenes at the Mardi Gras Club on Duval Street.

1984 – Medical researchers were puzzled as to why Key West had 23 cases of multiple sclerosis, when, on average, a town of its size should have had fewer than one.

2012 – The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries announced that a shipwreck on Elbow Reef, six miles off Key Largo, had been identified as the British steamship Hannah M. Bell, sunk in 1911 while carrying coal to Veracruz.
