1862 – For Thanksgiving, the ladies of Key West presented a flag to the men of the 90th New York regiment, along with a decorated cake, apples, oranges, and lemonade.

1864 – All civilian men at Key West between the ages of 18 and 45 were ordered to report for the militia. A special commission was established to rule on exemptions.

1925 – Adolfo Pazo of Key West was arrested for his role in a group of automobile accessory thieves. For several years, the gang, because they could not remove whole vehicles from the island, stripped cars of tires, lights, horns, rims, fenders, and wheels, which they then transported to Cuba for sale.

1932 – Vagrant men eager to escape the northern winter were arriving to the Keys in droves. So many were hopping the Overseas Railroad trains that F.E.C. officials met with the sheriff to find a solution to the problem. It was planned to block the unwelcome visitors at the county line and arrest those who made it through.

1962 – President John Kennedy, Florida Governor Ferris Bryant, the Joint Chief of Staff and the Atlantic Area Commanders of the Army, Air Force and Navy arrived in Key West to review the military installations and troops that had been part of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

1974 – Wilhelmina Harvey was unanimously elected chair of the District School Board of Monroe County during the organizational meeting.
