1828 – The act incorporating the City of Key West was repealed and a new one incorporating the Town of Key West was passed by the territorial council.
1932 – The local County Council for unemployment relief began a beautification project and mosquito eradication program on the sole stretch of county road in Key Largo, which ran from the highway to Anglers Camp. Sixty men were employed.
1934 – Edward Bruce, noted painter and director of the Federal Public Works Art Project, confirmed that he and his wife would be spending the winter in Key West.
1935 – It was announced that George Schutt, manager of the Long Key Fishing Camp that had been destroyed in the Labor Day hurricane, would run Luther Pinder’s camp on Boca Chica Key for the winter season.
1998 – The Lower Florida Keys Hospital District Commission voted to negotiate a 30-year lease of the Lower Keys Health System to Naples-based Health Management Associates, Inc. A successful deal would eliminate the need for local hospital taxes.
