There’s More To The Story: Celebrating National Library Week

Graphic with photo of a woman and text reading National Library Week April twenty three through twenty nine, twenty twenty three. There's more to the story. Logos for ALA, the Library of Congress and Scholastic. Text reading As a young immigrant child, I came to this country when I was six years old with no English. I know firsthand that there's so much more to the story when it comes to libraries, just like there's more to my story. I am the product of amazing libraries and librarians who saw me, supported me, and nurtured me. Through books, movies, games, giveaways and engaging programming I found the courage to go for my dreams. Kelly Yang, National Library Week, Honorary Chair.

The Monroe County Public Library encourages all community members to visit the library during National Library Week, April 23-29, to explore all they have to offer.

Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and ebooks. But there’s so much more to the story of libraries.

Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie screenings, crafting classes, lectures, and more. The Monroe County Public Library offers a wide array of programs, classes and resources, including eBooks and eAudiobooks, streaming films via Kanopy, Mango Language courses and historical images and archives.

And libraries play a critical role in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. Monroe County Public Library supports the Florida Keys with services such as computer access, printing, tech tutor services and more.
