Best Books of 2023

Text reads Best Books of 2023. Check them out now from the library - keys libraries dot org. Graphics of an award ribbon, a stack of books and the Monroe County Public Library logo.

These are books in our collection that appear in the Best of 2023 lists published by the Washington Post, Publishers Weekly, Amazon, Book Riot, Smithsonian Magazine, the Chicago Public Library, the New York Public Library the New York Times, New Yorker and Goodreads.

And these are the Best Audiobooks of 2023 that are in our collection – the lists are from Audible, Audiofile, Libro.fm and Literary Hub.

If eBooks and eAudiobooks are available, you can borrow and download them right away via the Libby app or our Overdrive site. If they’re already checked out, you can put in a request and they’ll be delivered when available. For print books, you can put in a request and have it sent to your nearest branch or Pickup Locker. Lockers are accessible 24/7 outside the Marathon and Key Largo branches and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at Bernstein Park on Stock Island.

We also have a collection of all of our eBooks, and eAudiobooks – 187 of them! – that are on the New York Times Notable Books of 2023 list. (There are 100 titles on the list, but we have most of them in both eBook and eAudiobook formats.) Same goes for the 184 eBooks and eAudiobooks in our collection from Time Magazine’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2023. School Library Journal’s list is too long for us to enter above, but it offers 169 choices in nine different categories, from picture books to young adult, including fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels and manga. And if you want to dive deep, NPR’s annual Books We Love has 381 titles, and you can select multiple categories to hone in on the right read.
