Looking To Up Your Skill Set? There’s A (Free!) Course From Your Library For That
Are you looking to brush up some software skills? Take your career to the next step? Or just explore a new creative outlet, like photography, music or writing? Extend your cooking skills, learn a new language or find out about coding? You can do all of those and more – with a Monroe County Public Library card. All the courses are free.
LinkedIn Learning has more than 4,000 online courses available on almost any subject you can imagine. That ranges from business courses, including leadership, data management, financial and accounting, human resources and more. There’s also software training (tutorials and certifications) for a range of platforms and programs, including cloud computing, database management, Microsoft programs and web development. On the creative side, there are courses about graphic design, music, drawing, writing, photography and much more.
If you like watching videos to learn, there are a wealth of options on Kanopy, our video streaming app, including the Great Courses.
Looking to learn another language – or do you know someone who is learning English? Mango Languages has dozens of courses to choose from, including English as a Second Language, tailored to your native language (including Spanish and Haitian Creole). It’s got an app you can use on your phone, and once you have a Mango Languages account, you can add up to five family members (who don’t have to have their own library cards).
And if you’re curious about coding, check our latest addition, Fiero Code. You can learn to make websites, video games, apps and more, with programming languages including HTML, Javascript, CSS, and Python. It’s designed for kids 8-18 but we promise we won’t tell if you’re a little older.
You have access to all these courses for free, with your library card. To see what’s out there, click on Resources on the library homepage, keyslibraries.org. If you have any questions, you can email info@keyslibraries.org – or visit or call your local branch. You can even sign up for a card online and start looking into the courses right away. You just need to come into one of the library branches within three months and confirm that you live here.
Also don’t forget that if you have questions about the library during times we’re open, you can always click the “Ask A Librarian” button on the bottom righthand side of the homepage.
