Friends of the Big Pine Key Branch
The Friends of the Big Pine Key Branch serve to create an association of people interested in books and libraries. We focus public attention on library services and facilities in relation to the needs of our community. As a non-profit group, we raise funds above what is available from the Monroe County budget. We assist in the funding of special programs for the extension and improvement of library services and resources to serve the needs of the population of the Lower keys. Finally, we seek to advocate on the library’s behalf in order to inform elected officials, as well as the public, about the services that the library provides to our community and their continued need for funding.
Book sale income, membership dues, and other contributions to the Friends, fund a variety of projects, including:
•Children’s summer reading programs & weekly events
•Purchase of art and craft supplies
•Author talks and book signings
•Special collections of books, music CDs & DVDs •Purchase of new furnishings and library displays
The Friends meet several times per year at the Big Pine Key Library. All are welcome to join. See the library’s events page for the next scheduled meeting date.
