Going Strong At Sixty-Five

Our logo says we date back to 1892 and we have the receipts for that – in the collection of the Florida Keys History Center – showing a Key West Library Association forming in that year. The modern Monroe County Public Library system as we know it started in November 1959 with the opening of the Key West Library at 700 Fleming Street.

We held a great party on Wednesday, November 20, including a presentation about the library’s history from our Florida Keys History Center’s Lead Historian, Dr. Corey Malcom. But if you missed it, don’t worry! You can watch this great video about the Library produced by our colleagues at MCTV:
