Movie Matinee: Free Willy (PG)

Free Willy. Image of an orca jumping over a boy who is standing on a stone jetty.

Join us at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, for a free screening of one of the most iconic family films of the ’90s as well as a prime example of Earth Day’s message. Free Willy tells the story of Jesse (Jason James Richter), a streetwise orphan caught in an act of vandalism. Assigned to community service at an adventure park, he quickly forms a bond with an orca named Willy. The two kindred spirits form a successful act, but it quickly becomes clear that this is not where Willy truly belongs. While the orca scenes were filmed in Mexico City, the rest was shot in Oregon and Washington. Those lush vistas of nature (along with Willy’s heartfelt journey) serve as a potent reminder of preserving our planet’s treasures.

This movie is free and open to all – you do not need a Monroe County Public Library card to attend.
