Readers of all ages: Summer Reading is here! Join us in reading this summer during our Summer Reading program, Adventure Begins at Your Library. It’s not just reading, either – the program includes games, crafts, art projects, science experiments and guest speakers (along with some live animals). Your Keys libraries have a ton to offer! Stop by your local branch for a reading log to win prizes and enter in raffles. First day to pick up reading logs starts in June. Contact your local branch to learn how to participate.

What is the Summer Reading Program?

Every summer, the Monroe County Public Library offers Summer Reading programs to keep kids and their families reading all summer long. We believe reading is a fundamental skill. Summer Reading is a community tradition that promotes reading for fun and lifelong enrichment. We create an encouraging framework for learning for all ages during the summer. Reading together as a family helps prevent summer learning loss and encourages strong communication and bonding. Summer Reading isn’t just for kids, but for teens as well. (Want to know more about what our library has to offer kids and teens, all year round? It’s all here!)

Here’s what you can do during the Summer Reading Program:

  • Visit the library and check out books or download eBooks from our digital library.
  • Pick up a Reading log each week from your library
  • Read at least 15- 20 minutes every day and track on your reading log.
  • Enjoy Arts and Crafts with the librarians
  • Listen to a lecture from one of our guest speakers
  • Turn in your reading log to win a prize
  • Participate in one of our programs each week! From Storytime to exploding slime we’ll have something you’ll love!
