Learn About Día De Los Muertos And The Cemeteries Of The Keys

Día de Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated every year on November 1st and 2nd. Join us on Nov 2nd at the Key West Library as Florida Keys History Center Historian Dr. Corey Malcolm and Archivist Breana Sowers will present the audience with a look at iconic Keys cemeteries and death celebrations around the world. Then join the Save-A-Grave Guardians and the Historic Florida Keys Foundation in a procession to the Key West Cemetery for a tour.

The program will start at the library, 700 Fleming St., Key West, at 10 a.m.

Honor and celebrate your loved ones throughout the month of October by leaving a photo or a token on the library’s community ofrenda.

On this day, families build a Day of the Dead ofrenda (or altar) to honor and celebrate the life of family members who have passed. Ofrendas are a way to keep the memory of loved ones alive by remembering what they looked like, their favorite foods and drinks and even some of their favorite activities.
